Terms of use
Last updated: [date of publishing]
These terms apply to everyone who uses SchoolFriend: schools, their staff and teachers, and parents. SchoolFriend is run by [legal name and city] ("we"). By using SchoolFriend you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
1. What SchoolFriend is
SchoolFriend lets a school share attendance, homework, notices, exams, marks, report cards and timetables with parents, through a mobile app for teachers and parents and a web console for the school office.
2. The school's responsibilities
- The school decides who gets access and adds their mobile numbers. It is responsible for the information it enters being correct, and for having the right to share it with parents.
- The school tells parents that it uses SchoolFriend and handles their requests to correct or delete information.
- The school removes access for staff who leave and parents whose children leave.
- One coordinator at the school contacts SchoolFriend for support. Parents and teachers contact their school first.
3. Using SchoolFriend properly
You may use SchoolFriend only for school purposes. You must not:
- share your login code with anyone, or log in as someone else;
- post anything unlawful, abusive, hateful or sexual, or anything that harms a child;
- share other children's information outside the school;
- use SchoolFriend to advertise or sell anything;
- try to access information you are not meant to see, or disrupt the service.
The school or we may remove content or access that breaks these rules.
4. What we do
- We run SchoolFriend, keep it secure and store the data in India, as described in the privacy policy.
- We give support on WhatsApp, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm, to the school's coordinator.
- We aim to keep SchoolFriend available at all times but cannot promise it will never be interrupted, for example during maintenance or a provider outage. Important information (such as exam dates) should also reach parents through the school's usual channels.
- We may improve or change features. We will tell schools in advance about changes that affect how they use SchoolFriend.
5. Fees
Teachers and parents use SchoolFriend free. Schools pay the yearly fee agreed with us, per enrolled student. Pilot schools use SchoolFriend free for the agreed period. Fees and payment dates are set out in the school's agreement or invoice.
6. Ownership
The school owns the information it puts in SchoolFriend. We own the SchoolFriend software, name and design. A school that stops using SchoolFriend can ask for an export of its information, which we provide before deleting it as described in the privacy policy.
7. Limits of our responsibility
SchoolFriend is a tool for the school; decisions about attendance, marks, results and communication are the school's. To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility to a school for any claim is limited to the fees that school paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Ending use
A school can stop using SchoolFriend at the end of its paid period. We may suspend access if these terms are seriously broken or fees are not paid, after telling the school and giving it a reasonable time to fix the problem.
9. Disputes and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at [city] have jurisdiction. Questions or complaints: [support email address]. We will reply within 30 days.
